A blocked drain can be smelly, not to mention unsightly. As with most things, prevention is better than a cure.

•  Where possible, keep trees and root systems as far away from drainage lines as possible.
•  Avoid disposing of foreign matter via toilets and sinks.
•  Never cover your external overflow pipe. This is usually found outside a kitchen,     laundry or bathroom and has a removal grate to allow sewage surcharge.
